K&F Show #366-B (BONUS): American Graffiti // Why Car Movies Used to Mean Something

The Kibbe and Friends crew is back with another automotive movie deep dive, this time connecting the dots between American Graffiti, Dazed and Confused, and the entire cruising culture that shaped generations of car people. Rob, Corndog, and Bernie dig into why American Graffiti still works over 50 years later, from the unforgettable cars and soundtrack to the feeling of freedom and youth that George Lucas somehow bottled perfectly on film.

Along the way, the guys break down the similarities between John Milner and Wooderson, revisit some of the greatest cruising scenes ever put on screen, and reflect on why movies like these continue to resonate with anyone who grew up around cars, parking lots, drive-ins, and late-night bench racing with friends. There’s also plenty of the usual K&F chaos mixed in with movie trivia, George Lucas facts, Days of Thunder references, and more random automotive pop culture rabbit trails than should probably fit into one episode.

If you’ve ever spent a summer night cruising with nowhere to go, this episode is going to feel familiar in all the best ways.

TMCP #647: Mecum Auctions Insider David Morton – Live Auction Energy, Collector Car Trends & The Future of Car Culture

In this episode of The MuscleCar Place Podcast, guest host Bernie McPartland sits down with Mecum Auctions Senior Communications Manager David Morton during Mecum Houston for a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at one of the fastest-growing forces in the collector car world. What starts as a conversation about auctions quickly evolves into a deeper discussion about why live automotive experiences still matter in today’s digital world. David shares how his background in sports marketing helped shape Mecum’s growth strategy, why the company continues doubling down on live events rather than online-only auctions, and how Mecum has effectively become a motorsport-style entertainment experience that draws massive crowds, television audiences, and passionate enthusiasts nationwide.

The episode also dives into the rapidly changing collector car market, including the explosion of trucks, SUVs, restomods, and 1980s/90s-era vehicles as younger generations enter the hobby. Bernie and David discuss everything from Broncos and K5 Blazers to exotics, custom builds, Steve McQueen movie cars, and the emotional storytelling that continues driving collector enthusiasm. Plus, Rob Kibbe shares a Dallas Kibbe Racing Update covering Dallas’s aggressive summer racing schedule, preparation for the Charlotte Summer Shootout, and the challenge of balancing racing life with getting a Porsche 944 ready for prom season.

K&F Show #274: Zip Tie Drags and the UAW Strike; Dukes Review S2E8 “Hazzard Connection”

Presented with Holley!

Christmas is just around the corner…..and Santa is making his list and checking it twice. But lets be honest; do you really want to leave this one up to St. Nick? He’s a nice enough guy of course, but at this point he’s trying to help every kid on the planet while simultaneously not having to pay gift tax to the Feds on all of it. The IRS will get everyone, brother!

Do yourself and SC a favor, just visit www.holley.com and signup for a chance to win what you really want; a Sniper 2 EFI Master Kit!! Here’s the link you need, and be sure to tell them that we sent you!

K&F Show Summary:

Bo and Luke get conned – accidentally – by Cooter – into driving for a bad guy that’s being watched by the stage police, and possibly the feds. What’s he being watched for you ask? Human trafficking? Meth manufacturing and distribution? Ponzi schemes designed to keep little old ladies out of the old folks home and living in the gutter? No….none of those….he’s doing something far worse. This piece of human scum…..is selling…..stolen racing engines! He hides these sweet engines in demo derby cars to transport them out of the county and state, which keeps the feds easily at bay.

Bo and Luke get accused of being a part of it….and they have to drive demo derby cars as a result. And we dear viewers get treated to the sloppy General lee preparation that we love most in this early seasons, including the General Lee I love most – the one they pull up in the race track in. Paul Baxley brings in outstanding camera shots and jumps that would win him an Oscar today, and all is right with the world. 14-inch vectors for everyone!

K& Rating: 9.5 CornDogs.

KF Show Summary: There was a time in this country where you could do anything and subjective morals said that drugs – like marijuana were evil, but objectification of women…..was a good thing. Smoke em if you got em, right? Times have changed. Anyway, this is the one where Bo and Luke accidentally pick up a water heater that’s really a giant box of marijuana meant for a crime Lord (that old chestnut). In 1980, that meant sexy private detectives in a convertible Trans Am were comin’ after you! It also meant that in 1980 the Dukes of Hazzard had so much juice that this was the SECOND time a new spinoff plot would be introduced in an episode. The Dukes partner up with the detectives, take down the bad guys, right the wrongs, wear the tight jeans, climb the mountains in short shorts, and all’s right with the world. Except the spinoff. Didn’t happen. Thought it was no fault of those jeans. 8.5 Corndogs.

TMCP #510: LS Fest Texas Special – SAM Tech Automotive Machining School – Mike Hepp Top Fuel Racing With A Cause – Blane Burnett, Creating a New LS Fest

Holley Performance puts on some amazing events that people look forward to every year, all of which kicked off with the “OG” event called LS Fest. At that event any vehicle that had a General Motors LS engine was allowed, regardless of make, model, creed, color, or religion! Other events soon followed including LS Fest West in Las Vegas and this year LS Fest Texas at the Texas Motor Speedway!

Luckily for us we were able to send out the dynamic duo of Producer Bernie McPartland and YouTube star and performance vehicle magician Cody Young from Cody Crafted. The boys had only one goal: get some great interviews before the heat melted them to the asphalt. They had success and we have three feature interview to present in this week’s show: SAM Tech Automotive Machining School – Mike Hepp Top Fuel Racing With A Cause – Blane Burnett, Creating a New LS Fest!

TMCP #457: Mike Finnegan Returns – Zany 200 MPH Cadillacs, Hemi Powered ’55 Chevy’s, and YouTube Stardom Tricks!

This week I caught up with a very special friend of the show, Mike Finnegan. I met Mike on The Hot Rod Power Tour in 2015. That later fostered into a friendship that launched the Kibbe and Finnegan Podcast in 2016 (which today is the Kibbe and Friends Show). Mike’s best known as the host of popular automotive shows Roadkill (Motor Trend), Finnegan’s Garage (YouTube), and Faster with Finnegan (Motor Trend). More importantly than all that, he’s LOVES to make hilariously fun automobile projects with his friends and share them with the world. That’s the subject of today’s discussion!
