K&F Show #364: Special Edition Movie Review! Dazed and Confused (1993) – Last Day of High School in 1976

In this Special Edition episode, we shift gears from Hazzard County to a true cult classic—Dazed and Confused (1993). Set on the last day of school in May of 1976, this isn’t your typical movie breakdown. Instead of one central storyline, the film drops you into a full-on snapshot of teenage life—cruising backroads, chasing parties, navigating friendships, and figuring out what comes next when everything familiar suddenly ends.

We break down what makes this movie hit so differently, especially now. From the perspective of looking back on high school versus living it in the moment, the conversation digs into how the film captures that strange in-between phase of life—where you don’t yet know what matters, but somehow you’re right in the middle of it. There’s also plenty of discussion around the characters, including Randall “Pink” Floyd’s internal battle with expectations, Mitch Kramer’s brutal introduction into high school culture, and of course the unforgettable presence of Wooderson—who may or may not have ever actually graduated.

Naturally, we go deep on the cars—and this movie delivers. From the black Chevelle SS 454 to the orange GTO Judge, plus Trans Ams, Broncos, pickups, and everything in between, the car selection is as authentic as it gets. Nothing feels forced or out of place, and that realism adds to the entire experience. The soundtrack gets its due as well, with wall-to-wall 70s rock that drives the tone of every scene and eats up a surprising chunk of the film’s budget.

This is part movie review, part time capsule, and part reflection on what it all meant then—and what it means now. Whether you’ve seen it once or a hundred times, there’s something here that hits a little differently depending on where you are in life.

Love is in the air and Valentines day is upon us. This time on Ask Rick, we dive into a subject we love …. and that is (potentially) buying more old gasoline powered classic cars. Rick recently attended the Kissimmee Mecum auction with good intentions of bidding on a few examples. He remarked that the prices were huge and the numbers blew right past what he planned on and kept skyrocketing. In previous episodes Rick said he believes that gas powered collectible cars will go up in value as new options start to dwindle being replaced by silent electric offerings.

TMCP # 465 – Ask Rick; The Real Story of Herb Adams 1970’s Cheverra and Fire AM’s – The First Pro-Touring Muscle Cars!

Rick Schmidt is back for our ever-popular “Ask Rick” segment this week and we discussed two different “Pro-Touring” cars in the NPD warehouse that were developed and created by Pontiac engineer Herb Adams. Specifically, the “Fire Am” Firebird and the “Cheverra” Camaro. Interestingly enough though, when these cars were created….there was no such thing as the phrase “Pro-Touring” at all. That phase would not enter the lexicon for at least another 20 years or more. These cars are rare, fast, and fun….and were developed in the late 1970’s! Here’s the fully story.

TMCP #462: Ask Rick – 60’s and 70’s Personal Luxury Cars, eBay Values, and the Rise and Fall of ASC – American Sunroof Corp

It’s the first show of April, and once again time for our monthly Ask Rick segment with Rick Schmidt! This time I wanted to know more about the unusual and rare vehicles in his collection. On our family trip to Florida we had a chance to stop in at NPD and were shown around the incredible collection that Rick and his father have amassed over the years. The “personal luxury car” segment of giant Buicks, Olds, Lincolns, and Fords is second to none….but the 1987 Firebird that really caught my eye was produced by a huge company in the 1980’s that is nothing but a memory today!

TMCP #367: Brotherly Love at it’s Best – A Pontiac Firebird Restored in Memoriam; The Pro-Touring Update Featuring Larry Callahan’s 21st Century 6-banger ’55 Chevy

Today’s show is perhaps one of the most important we’ve ever done at TMCP, and frankly speaking – it’s the real reason this show started in the first place. Our guest is Brandon Bailey, a man I’ve never met in person but one that I was convinced my my great friend Kirk Hansen that I needed to know. Brandon had just purchased Kirk’s Firebird in order to restore it as the feature car for a very-soon upcoming fundraiser to raise money in memoriam for the family of his best friend Daniel. This is the story of that journey.

Branden Bailey had a best friend, Daniel Reed and they met at a sandlot baseball game before they were teenagers. These two became best friends as close as brothers and did everything together. They grew up riding bikes, playing football, and watching Smokey and the Bandit enough to wear out the tape. When Daniel was offered a 1980 Firebird his dreams of a car like in the movie came true. The boys spent many hours changing motors and fixing on the Firebird and driving around having a great time. Daniel was struck by a car while riding his motorcycle to work and passed away. Local friends and relatives put together a memorial run to raise money for his 8 year old son and wife that he left behind. Branden said around 70 cars showed up for the drive and everyone had a great time.
