Movie Review:
Elf (2003) – Crown Vics, Clausometers,
and Chrysler Turbines

Finally, the guys close the episode with a dedicated movie review segment for the 2003 Christmas classic Elf, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Will Ferrell, James Caan, Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Asner, and Bob Newhart.
Rob lays out why Elf earns a spot in the ultra-elite rotation with A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation: it’s endlessly rewatchable, incredibly quotable, family-friendly, and somehow feels both modern and timeless. He walks through Favreau’s mission to create a movie that looked like a Rankin/Bass special (think Rudolph), relied on practical effects and forced perspective instead of heavy CGI, and gave Buddy the Elf a genuine, innocent heart instead of making him just another PG-13 goofball.
Then the K&F magic hits: they treat Elf like a car movie.
-
Rob dives into the real-world New York guerrilla filming used for Buddy’s first day in the city — including the taxi chaos and the “random guy in red sweats” that Buddy mistakes for Santa.
-
The crew breaks down the Ford Crown Vic taxi fleet used throughout the film and gets nerdy about the P-codes: P70 and P72 taxi and fleet models, P71 police interceptors, P73 and P74 civilian trims, wheelbases, and why Crown Vics have become the go-to swap and donor platform for everything from Chargers to classic trucks.
-
Corndog rolls out “top-secret” intel on the five Santa sleighs used in Elf: hero sleighs, stunt sleighs, the fully CGI version, and the “real” Santa sleigh that supposedly features a Chrysler turbine-inspired powerplant reimagined as the Kringle 3000. He even riffs on how a modern LS swap or jet setup might keep Santa’s parts sourcing simple on Christmas Eve.
They wrap the review by ranking Elf alongside the other staple Christmas movies, sharing how many times they’ve each seen it, and playing a lightning-round game of “Elf clip or not?” where Will Ferrell sound bites from Elf, Old School, Anchorman, and Talladega Nights all get thrown into the blender.
If you love Christmas, cars, Crown Vics, pointless but glorious trivia, or just want to hear three grown men earnestly discuss Santa’s sleigh wheelbase… you’re going to want to hit play on this one.
