Movie Review Double-Header:

A Christmas Story and A Christmas Story Christmas!

We are kicking off the Christmas season with a 3-week long Holiday Trifecta! This week we’ll do a back to back re-air of our 2019 and 2022 reviews of “A Christmas Story (1983)” and “A Christmas Story Christmas (2022)”. Corndog Loves the original for the Christmas Americana. Kibbe loved the sequel too and had JUST gone to the A Christmas Story House when this was recorded.

Next week would like YOU to choose what we review this year!  A few suggestions are in the show….but come up with some fun ones if you can. Remember, there has to be some automotive thread to it! Send your suggestions to robert@themusclecarplace.com.

For our final regular (non-Patreon) show of the year we will finally review the Clark Griswold Classic of Christmas Vacation. We know it’s overdue…and we couldn’t be more surprised we haven’t done it if we work up with our head sewn to the carpet.

A Christmas Story – Image: Warner Bros

A Christmas Story Review: If there was one movie to review that best summed up the mind of kid-dom at Christmas it definitely has to be A Christmas Story! The tale of Ralphie Parker and his desire for a Red Ryder BB gun is ingrained in Americana, thanks in part to the 24-hour marathon on the Turner Broadcast networks beginning in the late 1990’s. It’s set in the late 1930’s and is laid over with Jean Shephard’s voice telling the tale of his youth. From fighting bullies with green teeth, to being tricked into radio commercials for Ovaltine, to his old man’s desire for a MAJOR AWARD, this movie has it all and never gets old. There are even old cars, a tongue stuck to a frozen pole, and a duck that gets his head cut off.  PERFECT 10 LITTLE DEBBIE CHRISTMAS TREE RATING.

A Christmas Story Christmas – Image: Legendary Pictures

A Christmas Story Christmas Review: Remember when I told you in the original Christmas Story Review that the whole movie was a love letter to his dad? I was right! Ralphie is an adult now with a wife and kids of his own, and he has to deal with the passing of his Old Man at Christmas while simultaneously dealing with his own career midlife crisis. There are bar flies that will amuse you, a mom that hides from the scourge of the earth (known as carolers). Thanks to his wife and his mom Ralhie gets the win, teaches his kids how to stand up to bullies, and has a few beers with his life long friends. And fixes a Plymouth radiator with a half dozen eggs. This masterpiece is going to rival – for some – the best movie of 2022. Watch out Top Gun Maverick, and screw the crappy review that the New York Times gave. This is a classic for the rest of time! PERFECT 10 LITTLE DEBBIE CHRISTMAS TREE RATING.

Rob made his kids go see Ralphie’s house – finally! November 2022

National-Parts-Depot

National Parts Depot Presents: Bernie on the News

Also in this episode….the good people at National Parts Depot have to decided 2023 is the year to present the Award Winning Newsman Bernie McPartland in his (self-proclaimed) award winning news segment, Bernie On the News. As most of you know, NPD is the title sponsor of The MuscleCar Place Podcast and has been since 2011. Their immense support of TMCP as a show (and as a company) can’t be overshadowed.

And now, the fact that they are presenting Bern in the drivers seat for the world to hear….is somewhat humbling. And by humbling, we mean frightening, terrifying, sickening, etc. Welcome, NPD (and Bern, don’t screw this up)!
