Dukes Review – S4E10: “Trouble at Cooter’s”

In honor of Halloween 2018 here’s a little candy that’ll solve any problem you’ll ever have: a “K&F Original Recipe Banter and Dukes Review” episode! This is the one where Cooter falls in love – in about 8 seconds – with the wife of a bad guy who is distracting him while the bad guy steals fur coats that can only be accessed via Cooter’s Garage. The actress was also that one chick in Smokey and the Bandit 3. Remember that one? It’s the one where Burt Reynolds wasn’t in it and Jerry Reed played the Bandit part while driving a Trans Am that looked like KITT. It was terrible. Anyway, this Dukes episode is solid on plot, outstanding on stunts, and marks the last episode of the “small push-bar” Generals. Going forward, they’ll look very different. 10-Corndogs!

Legit Episode Info:

Season 4 – Episode 10 “Trouble at Cooter’s”
Written by Bruce Howard
Directed by Don McDougall
Original Airdate: 11/27/1981

Corndog’s Insider Dukes of Hazzard Episode Specific Nerd Trivia:

In the opening scene, when Bo and Luke are driving down the road and singing… the 2nd unit camera crew shows the exterior of the car and only Bo is in the car. They cut back to the interior shot of Bo and Luke… and then back to the exterior and now Luke is driving with Bo in the passenger side.

On the first jump over the creek, if you look carefully, you can see how much of an impact it makes on the car during the jumps. As the front wheels hit the ramp, the energy travels up through the A-pillars and into the roof. You can watch the gap between the A-pillar and the wing glass spread open upon impact with the ramp, and then spring back into place (see attached screen shots). On cars with significant front end damage, the wide gap will stay and not spring back.

When Russ Mitchell is inside Cooter’s Garage, and starts to make a hole in the wall… if you look at the gray shelf just to his right, you will see a Charger fuel tank on top of the shelf and a Charger rear bumper leaned up against it. I always like looking for random Charger parts in and around Cooter’s Garage.

After looking for Bo and Luke in Cooter’s Garage, when Rosco and Cletus are running back to their cars, you can clearly see the studio building in the background with the arched roofline. This happens quite often.

This episode is still at Lake Sherwood and Burbank Studios. It looked like every Charger that was used in the episode was a ’69 model. With all of the carburetor issues that the Dukes were having, we get to see more shots of the engine bay than usual. All engine shots were from the close-up cars. Wayne’s car usually stayed at Burbank… and the second close-up car usually stayed on location (away from Burbank). So chances are, you get to see a little bit of both engine bays. I’m still not exactly sure when they went to using two fully detailed close-up cars. So it’s possibly that all of the engine bay shots were from one car.

This episode had a lot of great driving scenes… lots of sliding around in the General… great camera angles… but the storyline was alright. I’ll give this episode a solid 8.

Dream Board Update: Goals to Accomplish Before Episode 200

rob_ferrari_dietcokesponsorship
Coca Cola Corporation take note. This is how awesome sponsoring our show would be. Even when driving Ferrari F-430 race prepped track cars Kibbe can only think about how refreshing a Diet Coke would be.

1. Get Diet Coke to Sponsor us….or just Kibbe. FAILED

2. Be characters in the Disney/Pixar movie, Cars 3. Finnegan is the General. Kibbe…is wishing he was the General. FAILED.

3. Syndicate the show onto TV and radio, having awesome guests in studio, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. on regularly to be our best friend.

4. Get John Schneider himself on the show with us. Pray to God he actually likes us and isn’t freaked out. FAILED

5. Blow up the podcast so that it becomes a regular weekly show, interviewing celebrities, and actually providing a living for us capable of allowing us to race cars anytime we want plus let our wives get the shoes they like.

6. Get our own studio.

7. We each get a General Lee (real car – not a toy). Kibbe has one!

8. Get a Voiceover Guy to announce the segments.

9. Jump a car together. Kibbe wants to go 30-feet vertical.

10. Make a Dream GL that is based off of a 1973 NASCAR Charger (like the 1/16th scale AMT model)

11. Kibbe needs a new wallet to replace his “George Costanza”.

12. Mike to get a new truck for legit towing. DONE!
