The Dukes Of Hazzard – Episode Review:
“Duke vs Duke”
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! This is a special edition of the show for you while we’re all on Christmas Break. And by Special Edition we mean a full “re-run” of a Dukes episode review that Corndog liked. This was from KF Episode 263. We’ll be back next week to kick off 2026 for you. For now just kick back and enjoy!
There are Dukes of Hazzard episodes that just feel like home, like the reason we all fell in love with this show in the first place — and Duke vs. Duke is one of those foundational ones for me. For this week’s release, I’m rolling out a listener-favorite rebroadcast from deep in the archive, timed perfectly for that slow stretch between Christmas and New Year’s when you just need some Hazzard County warmth and V8 thunder in the background. No Bernie news, no chatter — just pure Dukes. Season 3, Episode 13. Aired January 23, 1981. Prime-cut, golden-era Dukes with stunts, drama, and the General Lee right where it belongs: dead center in the action.

If you’ve seen it, you know the hook — Bo and Luke racing each other. Boss Hogg sets up the Hazard County Derby, Cooter builds himself a rowdy Chevelle with a Kale Yarborough heart, promptly gets hurt, and suddenly Luke finds himself driving it right at his own cousin. Pride flares, egos spark, and nobody wants to say out loud what both believe: I’m faster than you. Mix in Boss Hogg’s fine-print trickery, Rosco juiced up with nitrous (long before Fast & Furious ever thought of it), Ma Parker stirring the pot, and you get one of the most fun, high-octane setups the series ever filmed.
This one is wall-to-wall car content. Corn Dog breaks down the hero Chevelle — velocity stacks, radius-cut wheel openings, stunt doubles, broken suspension parts from brutal landings — and even identifies which General Lees were likely used based on under-hood details most normal humans would never notice. Nathan Warren has a soft spot for this car and even dug up real-life history on it from previous owners and builders. Stunts are peak Paul Baxley: pipe ramps, camera cars visible, metal bending, and that unforgettable backwards General Lee finish while a police car literally shoves the Chevelle across the line. It’s glorious chaos.

But what makes Duke vs Duke special to me isn’t just the racing — it’s the tension between Bo and Luke when loyalty gets tested. Seeing them not on the same side is uncomfortable, but real. You feel the sting in the quiet moments under the hood. You root for them even while they’re trying to beat each other. And when they limp across the line side-by-side, pride dented but heart intact, you’re reminded why the show works: it’s about family first, horsepower second. Corn Dog gives it a perfect 10/10. I’m with him.
So fire this one up, kick back, and enjoy some vintage Hazzard fun. It’s stunts, steel, laughs, and pure orange-charged nostalgia — exactly the way we like it.
