Every now and then you get a chance to do something big….and in this show, we got to go Pro! In this weeks interview, my good pal Larry Callahan and I had the chance to interview (at the same time) nine time Pikes Peak International Hill Climb winning driver Robby Unser and two time Indy 500 winner Al Unser Jr! Why, you ask? Fantastic question! For 2015, these two pro drivers have decided that the best place to race – and enjoy – themselves was my running in the GoodGuys autocross series in a few classic muscle cars (a ’64 Nova, a first gen Camaro, and a second gen Camaro, specifically)!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know Al and Robby have been involved with professional racing for many years. Recent events have brought them together to race and refine an all new suspension system in conjunction with Speedway Motors called the “G-Comp.”

They are beginning with the Nova and Camaro platform, having already launched their Nova front suspension system last fall (available now through Speedway). The Nova rear suspension is being finalized – through track testing – and will be available soon.

The next vehicles in the works are first and second gen Camaros with an LS based LS7 engine and a wild one off aluminum “Pikes Peak” small block in the 1968 1st gen, both of which you will see Al and Robby running this year (Al of course says he is going to be faster and Robby has some doubts about that). Speedway plans to have a series of performance suspension kits and parts as well as expanding into multiple makes of cars and trucks in the future as well.

Both Al and Robby will compete in the Goodguys Autocross Series throughout the season with the intent of making it all the way to the season finale: The Duel In the Desert!

Goodguys will feature an autocross at most of their events this year, meaning YOU will have a chance to run against and make friends with Al and Robby….as well as all of the other wonderful people that have fallen in love with autocrossing at these events (and remember, you can run nearly anything with FUN being the main goal). Both Al and Robby will be at SCCA CAM Challenge events across the nation as well other Pro-Touring event throughout the summer.
