Corndog’s Pick – Dukes Review: S1E2
“Daisy’s Song”

Note: This Dukes episode was originally reviewed by Rob Kibbe and Mike Finnegan in Episode 277 of The MuscleCar Place. It was part of the “DukesCast” segment…and predates the Kibbe and Friends show entirely! This episodes is THE episode with every last detail on the Daisy Roadrunner that Corndog is creating his replica of! His car will be at MOPARTY 2024 for Catherine Bach’s use!

K&F Show Summary: In this second ever episode of the Dukes of Hazzard we learn that Daisy Duke is an aspiring songstress. She spends her own money to have a song published, it is, and it is then recorded professionally but a real country singer.,……all so that we get to watch her show up in a 70’s one piece that is definitely still in fashion. Bo and Luke trick the bad guys into thinking Daisy can be an “AI” impersonator of real singers so they can then sell the now fake records for real money. And it turns out that the bad guys are really run by Boss Hogg, which is honeying up to women and trying to get in cahoots with – effectively – the mob! This may be the weirdest, coolest, and most true-to-it’s creator (Gy Waldron) episode ever…..and it has the full details on the Daisy RoadRunner that our man Corndog is preparing this very second.

10 Corndogs!

K&F Show Summary:

You knew it would happen some time: “Shake and bake!” “If you ain’t first, you’re last!” “I am a semi professional race car driver and am amateur tattoo artist.” “Don’t snort those Lucky Charms.” If there is one racing movie that is as often (or perhaps more) quoted than Days of Thunder, it’s Talladega Nights! Listen in or our full review of perhaps the dumbest, most magical, most wonderful racing movie ever made that was pitched to – and purchased by – a major motion picture studio with nothing other than the following words: “Will Ferrell as a NASCAR Driver.”

KF Show Summary: On our quest for a Father’s Day episode we decided to review this one! This is the episode where Luke, an ex boxer in the Marines who nearly accidentally killed someone, has to choose his Uncle Jesse’s farm or to trade his soul. And he can’t choose either. Uncle Jesse knows that he has a dilemma to help Luke with, but instead of giving him the answer (which he COULD d0), he helps Luke learn how to make an impossible decision on his own. Because that’s what fathers do best; teach their kids how to make the tough decisions and be better for it. And then Luke punches the bad guy out, wins the farm anyway, and Jack Gill makes jumping history in the General Lee with the first ever “bungee” suspension vest. 10 Dogs.

K&F Show Movie Review: Happy NASCAR season! The Daytona 500 is this weekend, so that means it’s time to rebroadcast of our review of Days of Thunder from KF Show 137. When you’ve reached perfect once, you gotta own it!

The team that brought you Top Gun, brings you Top Car – better known as Days of Thunder. Both movies feature a wildly talented but undisciplined rebel who is as awesome with driving machinery as he is with the ladies. Both feature a helmet-less motorcycle riding Tom Cruise as the lead who goes through massive success riding his own ego….until his butt can’t cash them when he gets hurt – in one case just mentally, and in the other physically. Both leave him scared to re-engage at the thing he does best…until he basically resolves it in about 20 seconds by realizing….he’d damn well better or his friends were going to die in one case, and in the other they’d just be super bummed they lost the race…and move on with life. Whatever.

Both feature a wise father figure Tom Cruise at first rejects the authority of, then later craves the leadership and approval from. Both have Val Kilmer as Iceman playing the uber talented and more successful nemesis turned friend….except in Days of Thunder it’s Michael Rooker playing Rowdy Burns, both have an amazing failure on the first try to woo the leading lady, and both have a dead goose scene…except in days of thunder it was just a bird run over by a rental car. This is the most perfect racing movie of all however, and even today still is adored by fans – and NASCAR drivers – including the current reigning NASCAR Cup Series Champion who goes by the name of Rowdy Busch…and runs number 51 on his own race cars outside of the Cup Series. This is the movie that proves to get the girls, you gotta go fast, and if you’re from California you’re not really a yankee…you’re not really from anywhere.

Dukes Review: Somehow, an episode that has next to no General Lee in it…..is so endearing and charming it must be due to Christmas magic! In this episode they choose to re-enact the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. (FYI – everyone in Hollywood now does this. Bill Murray did it in Scrooged. Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds just did it too in Spirited. It’s on Apple + and is pretty good!). Not good enough? This is the tale of Scrooge Hogg stealing Christmas trees from Hazzard citizens and the Dukes stealing them back to deliver them in Santa suits. Not good enough? In a nod to childlike happiness, the bad guys in the episode also wear Santa suits….meaning there are 6 Santas at one time. When the bad guys in Santa suits get caught, Cletus calls them “Merry Men!” The Boars Nest is decorated, proving that Christmas decorations at dive bars make them extra cheery. Better yet, there are carols, hot chocolate, and this episode ends on a message of what Christmas is all about – unconditional forgiveness…..topped off by some jingle bells flying overhead by (possibly) a certain jolly old Elf. Rating: 10 Little Debbie Christmas Cakes!

TMCP #517: Mike Finnegan Returns – Behind the Scenes of Cleetus McFarland’s Bristol 1000!

This week marks the return of friend and listener favorite Mike Finnegan! Mike is an all around great dude, loved in the automotive entertainment industry, and was the original co-host of the Kibbe and Finnegan Podcast Show (which became Kibbe and Friends in 2019). This week marks the end of the second phase of our sister show “The Kibbe and Friends Show” where we reviewed the final episode of all 7 seasons of The Dukes of Hazzard. Since Mike helped it all begin, I asked him on to celebrate hitting the big milestone. (Kibbe and Friends isn’t going away however, now we get to go back and hit all of the early episodes that Corndog loved most….and maybe build a few more Dukes stunt cars!)
