The Nitty Gritty:
Welcome to Episode 56 of the Pro-Touring.com Podcast!
We’re simul-posting the show show here on TheMuscleCarPlace.com as well as on Pro-Touring.com so everyone can get their fix.
For those new to the scene, the Pro-Touring.com podcast show is hosted by myself and Larry Callahan, the owner of Pro-Touring.com.
The show is sponsored by the fantastic hot rod wiring supply company, Ron Francis Wiring, and we’re very appreciative that they were our FIRST EVER show sponsor, and the first sponsor to re-sign for 2013!

Feature Interview:
Hobaugh vs. Popp!
In this episode of the Pro-Touring podcast we had a chance to do something that we’ve NEVER done before: have the two winners of the seasons biggest events on the show to talk about what it was like to race each other to the last lap! Both Brian and Danny have spent (nearly) their lifetimes racing cars and competing at high levels in SCCA autocross, road coarse racing, and other areas (Hobaugh has been a top player in the red-hot California autocross scene for years, and Popp is the Chief Driving Instructor for 10/10ths Motorsports).
As we shared in the last show, Brian Hobaugh won the 2013 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational in his ’65 Corvette, and Danny Popp came in third in the 2013 Lingenfelter Camaro (just behind the legendary Mark Stielow). Both men beat the best of the best in the field, include drivers and cars. They even beat a Nissa GTR!
One week later, Brian and Danny battled it down to a one-on-one shootout at the first annual Good Guys Autocross shootout, which had the extra cool factor of being a race-your-way-in event. Brian raced the same ’65 Corvette, but this time Danny was back in his ’72 Corvette.
During the interview Brian and Danny talked about their approach to both events (Danny is a previous OUSCI champ), what setup changes they made during events, and basically the mental approach it takes to race against people you’re good friends with, but that you also seriously want to beat!
Thanks for the interview guys! Is it really true that you hate each other? 🙂
-Rob Kibbe and Larry Callahan
