Larry Callahan Pro-Touring Update:
It is time once again for the quarterly Pro-Touring Update, Presented by Ron Francis Wiring, and starring Mr. Larry Callahan! The focus of this update was two fold: discuss the next Pro-Touring events in the April to June time frame as well as Larry’s tips for creating a killer garage studio!
In classic Larry style the garage is not going to be just a garage, but a full blown studio location for shooting car videos and workshop type content. He’s planning to generate features on Pro-Touring cars specifically with full under-car viewing to accompany all the discussion and driving video that will go along with it. The first order of business for the garage was to install an extra tall Bendpak lift.
The garage had a standard height ceiling and roof, but in addition to “fun” cars Larry had a desire to fit his large size 2500 HD Chevy truck on as well. In order to accomplish that certain things needed to change (specifically the structure of the roof and reconfiguration of the ceiling). Larry said that over the years many changes and modification have happened to the roof of the old structure and he was able to go in and remove a lot of redundant building materials. He then replaced what absolutely had to stay with newer technology engineered trusses that will give it more strength and space. After this had happened he was able to structure the area above the hoist to accommodate vehicles without modifying the external roof line of the garage.
To accommodate the Bend Pak lift and he has updated the floor cement to be safe and not have any chance of it falling over. He cut out a couple section of old cement and added 16 inches of ANSI tested and approved cement so he will have ultimate confidence in the installation of the hoist. He also coated the floor in a bright epoxy with a touch of traction additive. He said that with the white walls and bright floor the light illuminates the underside of the car without needing additional lights pointed up at the bottom of the vehicle. He also pointed out that in the very near future he will be adding even more traction material, because once the transmission fluid hits the floor, it is very hard to remain upright. Over all, the garage is shaping up to be a great location for Larry to make some interesting automotive videos for us to watch.
SEMA News: The Pro-Touring SEMA Dinner is once again looking for a 2023 home. Every year it keeps getting pushed further and further away and the venues are harder to find. One option may be to go back to what some consider to be the founding location, Denny’s! Larry had some interesting history as to the actual location of the very first Pro-Touring banquet and it is not exactly what most people think. Stay tuned as this is a big anniversary year and he really wants to get one last dinner in before being pushed out completely.
