FEATURE INTERVIEW
This week, I interviewed Tyler Staley of Carlisle Events. Tyler is the Event Manager for the GM Nationals at Carlisle. He is responsible for managing some of the huge events at Carlisle. Tyler talks to me about where his interest in cars came from, how he started working at Carlisle, and about some of the events coming up in 2013.
Carlisle GM Nationals– June 21st thru the 23rd.
Tyler told me that this years celebration cars are Turbo V6 Buicks from 1978 to 1987. 2013 is the 35th anniversary of the ground breaking Turbo V6 and there will be a great showing of Buick power. He said the GM Nationals has a very strong swap meet for all GM vehicles. There will be special activities for younger enthusiasts “young guns” and Tyler has invited tech schools to come and compete with their projects. Tyler mentioned some special women’s events and speakers too. The GM Nationals event is one that Tyler is responsible for and you could hear the passion in his voice for making this event special and helping it grow. You can check it out on Facebook too.
Carlisle Chrysler Nationals – July 12th thru July 14th.
This years celebration car is Max Wedge powered Mopars. There will be a Max Wedge shoot out at a nearby drag strip for lots of drag racing fun. Tyler said the Chrysler Nationals event at Carlisle is one of the largest with the largest Mopar swap meet in the world. AMC cars are invited to the show too.
Carlisle Ford Nationals – June 7th thru June 9th.
Fords celebration car theme is 289 powered vehicles. 2013 is the 50th anniversary for the 289 V8 and it has powered many high performance and race vehicles in it’s lifetime.
Tyler told us that our own show sponsor National Parts Depot also sponsored the show field at Carlisle and believes in 2013 NPD will be there again. He mentioned that clubs are welcome to contact the Carlisle office and they are more than happy to work with them for upcoming shows. Tyler noted that the shows are getting bigger each year and that the Chrysler and Ford shows, had an average attendance of over 40,000 people. The GM Nationals has averaged around 27,000 people and the Spring show brings in nearly 100,000 people.
