FEATURE INTERVIEW
This week’s TMCP Podcast show guest is Pete Gladyz, a retired Chrysler engineer who spent his entire career dedicated to both creating and racing Mopar performance vehicles. He was part of the team that engineered and integrated the original 2.2 and 2.5 L Shelby cars (the GLH’s that were built off of the Omni/Horizon platform as well as the Chargers), and was well connected with all of the turbo Chrysler products of the time (even the turbo Caravan’s!).
In the 1990’s he was part of the original team that introduced the Dodge Viper, and later went on to manage the powertrain for the 3rd and 4th generation Viper as well. He also played a part in the Neon R/t, the Prowler, and ended his career by introducing the new Challenger SRT8!
During our interview we discussed over 30 years of Mopar performance history (and even 1960’s NASCAR items that pre-dated his time at Chrysler), learned what it’s really like to design and sell performance vehicles inside of a big company, and then spent the remainder of our time discussing his racing experiences. Long story short, he’s done durability racing, rally racing, won championships, and now runs Snow Drift events in Michigan that are so large, and so far out in the boonies, that he has an entire team of HAM radio operators in place to monitor the event!
I think that you Mopar fans especially will very much enjoy this interview. If you find yourself wanting to race something when the interview is complete (especially a rally car), just know that you’ve been warned ahead of time.
Thanks for the interview, Pete!
