Car Movie Review: 2004’s “Starsky & Hutch” Feature Film

K&F Movie Summary: If you combined Old School, Wedding Crashers, Anchorman, and the Hangover with a former Dukes of Hazzard stunt driver, you’d get this; an unbelievably funny remake with great car action, great music, and likely a pure hatred from original fans of the show!

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson play Detectives David Starsky and Ken Hutchison in the 2004 Hollywood remake of Starsky and Hutch. They chase bad-buy-drug-lord Vince Vaughn across fictional Bay City in a hopped up ’76 Gran Torino, painted Dodge Viper red with a beefed up small block Ford under the good. They get in a dance off, are accosted by Will Ferrell into acting like naked dragon riders, shoot a pony and a Karmann Ghia, all just to get to the bottom of the mysterious untraceable cocaine deal that Jason Bateman (Vaughn’s henchman) is making happen.

This movie is full of one liners, good cars, and a version of Huggy Bear played by Snoop Dogg that’ll give you faith in the underworld. But best of all, it ends in a car chase littered with jumps across a golf course and (almost) landed on a yacht.

10 Striped Tomatoes all around!

Classic Dukes Re-Review: S3E7 “Baa Baa White Sheep”

K&F Show Summary: Since we are just a few weeks from the 2024 Presidential election I thought we’d focus on the most presidential episode of the Dukes ever.  This is the one with Abe Lincoln of the United States of America and Jefferson Davis of the Confederate States of America. Of course both are the twin brothers Hogg, the good guy dresses in black and the bad guy dresses in white, and both are played by Sorrell Booke, sometimes who is the same character faking being the other character. The same Cadillac plays both roles too, black and white just like the relative suits. And just like we’ve seen before and will see again, Abe Lincoln Hogg is a character that we’ve never seen before and never will again, but I’m here to tell you that this episode is one of the golden age of television. It’s an age when characters were explained away in half a sentence, the Bible was put in a good light but still taken completely wrong and out of context, and high heels are swapped out for sneakers for jiggling running scenes that end in on screen lady mud wresting. This pre-dates the Ronald Regan presidency and reality in plots, and we may be dumber for watching it. But it’s silly, and fun, and childish, and wonderful. 9 Dogs.

Classic Dukes Re-Review: S7E17
“Opening Night at the Boars’ Nest”

Note: This Dukes review is a rebroadcast from Episode 236 of the Kibbe and Friends Show.

K&F Show Summary: I (Kibbe) was in 5th grade when this episode originally aired. I sadly didn’t understand it all coming to an end at that time as a kid, and now as a near 50 year old adult it seems just as hard but yet totally for different reasons. For the last six and a half years we have made a show about a show, and I for one have loved it! Anyway, enough with the sappiness. This is the final episode of the Dukes, John Schneider finally gets to write and direct something…..my High School Nova reappears one last time….and the General Lee actually gets hurt – from, a jump! The stunts are grossly limited as you’d expect from a cancelled show, but nonetheless the plot must go on. So…here’s the plot: there’s a Hazzard County talent show at the Boar’s Nest and Rosco has a magician’s act that supposedly makes Boss disappear. But when Boss actually gets kidnapped the Dukes must rescue him from two stone cold killers….so that Boss can get back in time to rescue Roscoe’s broken heart.

MOPARTY 2024: We Mopar’d, We Party’d, and We Interviewed Catherine Bach!
K&F Show Summary: Live from MOPARTY 2024, and what a trip!

At long last the KF Show gang – each and every last one of us – hit the road for Bowling Green Kentucky. “Kibbe Lee” the General Lee came too! There we conducted two days of interview interviews from the field, but featured the best for last with Catherine Bach herself! We were lucky enough to get an entire sit down with her, in fact. Thanks to Kevin Shaw at MOPAR Connection Magazine and Jason and Eddy at Auto Metal Direct we were able to secure a full location from which to create a mobile studio. Catherine signed autographs for fans for an hour and then sat down with us for at least another 30 minutes!

Along the way we had several fun guest on the show including Jimi Day from FM3 Performance Marketing (the company behind MOPARTY), Cody Young (@CodyCrafted ), Garrett Daniels (RnDFabworks.com), Nathan Warren (@warren_customs_llc ), Corndog, Bernie, TMCP Show writer Scott Staff, and myself. We did it all too including the Drag Racing, Autocross, Swap meet and the amazing show cars. We got so much content that we put it into two shows, in fact! Listen in to TMCP #587 to hear a fascinating interview Raymond Kohn from the Northeast Ohio Dukes, YouTuber Dylan McCool, and Blake Andermann of Sublime Technologies (super cool DIY Gen 3 Hemi swap kits).

Best of all though, the KF Patreon show fans turned out and we had a fantastic time hanging out together, laughing, and generally enjoying the fact that for at least 2 days…none of us had any real problems to deal with. And bacon. We ate a lot of bacon too.

Only 365 Days until Next Year!

Corndog’s Pick – Dukes Review: S1E2
“Daisy’s Song”

Note: This Dukes episode was originally reviewed by Rob Kibbe and Mike Finnegan in Episode 277 of The MuscleCar Place. It was part of the “DukesCast” segment…and predates the Kibbe and Friends show entirely! This episodes is THE episode with every last detail on the Daisy Roadrunner that Corndog is creating his replica of! His car will be at MOPARTY 2024 for Catherine Bach’s use!

K&F Show Summary: In this second ever episode of the Dukes of Hazzard we learn that Daisy Duke is an aspiring songstress. She spends her own money to have a song published, it is, and it is then recorded professionally but a real country singer.,……all so that we get to watch her show up in a 70’s one piece that is definitely still in fashion. Bo and Luke trick the bad guys into thinking Daisy can be an “AI” impersonator of real singers so they can then sell the now fake records for real money. And it turns out that the bad guys are really run by Boss Hogg, which is honeying up to women and trying to get in cahoots with – effectively – the mob! This may be the weirdest, coolest, and most true-to-it’s creator (Gy Waldron) episode ever…..and it has the full details on the Daisy RoadRunner that our man Corndog is preparing this very second.

Back To School Movie Review
“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”

Note: This Dukes review is a rebroadcast from Episode 228 of the Kibbe and Friends Show. With summer ending and kids heading back to school, this was the closest “school” car thing we could think of. Plus….Emily Kibbe is headed off to her first year of college and Dad Kibbe needed an extra 10 minutes to cry. Enjoy!

K&F Show Summary with Special Guest, Ryan Brutt:

Ferris Bueller’s Day off is the tale of one high school hero who truly had it all; looks, brains, money, friends, a smokin’ hot girlfriend, popularity, style, and panache. However, despite all of that he still lacked the two things that he needed most….a day off, and a car! This is the tale of Ferris Bueller, the 4th wall breaking, Ferrari stealing, John Hughes immortal movie hit of 1986. Like nearly every other John Hughes tale the setting of the story was the Chicago suburbs!

The Ferrari in the film is supposed to be a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California. The insert shots of emblems and wheels really are of the genuine article, but absolutely everything else was a faker-oo Modena Spyder replica (three of them, actually). Ferrari was none too happy with this movie and sued Modena out of business. Most reports show that the Ford powered replicas were ham-fisted together, ran poorly, and broke down often. In fact our man Ryan Brutt (The Auto Archaeologist) joined in to share the tales of the man that keep the fake Ferrari’s running during the movie filming; his dad!

Corndog’s Pick – Dukes Review: S1E9
“Limo One is Missing”

Note: This Dukes review is a rebroadcast from Episode 271 of the Kibbe and Friends Show. It has a bunch of great details on the Daisy Roadrunner that Corndog is creating his replica of! His car will be at MOPARTY 2024 for Catherine Bach’s use! The entire first half of this new episode details it heavily.

K&F Show Summary: Finally – the political Dukes episode we’ve been waiting for! Kinda. If there was an episode that could combine Nathan Warren with Ben Jones portraying Cooter, this would be it. Cooter – with God’s blessed skills – steals President Jimmy Carter’s car.Bo and Luke get him out of it, but not before using their smoking hot cousin to position herself as a faux-prostitute to distract the bad guys. Who are the bad guys in this one you ask? Boss Hogg – who has a car theft and chop shop ring. And Boss thinks his guys stole the car and wants it recovered to meet Jimmy Carter personally, but in the end it’s Uncle Jesse that gets the call of thanks from the Oval Office. And before the episode is over we will once and for all know whether Boss and Uncle Jesse are Republicans or Democrats. The 2024 Presidential race had nothing on this!

Classic Dukes Review: S2E14
“The Runaway”

K&F Show Summary:

Another classic Dukes review, and another reminder that in the glory years of the Dukes….all female guest stars ended up in a crop top and cut off shorts at some point. This classic episode documents the tale or a rich girl in love with a poor farm boy, and an egotistical wealthy father that wants to stand between them. Why? Because rich people – are evil – especially in a comic TV series. (As a side note, the evil rich father is played by Alan Alda’s father!) The Dukes help the girl out to marry her farm boy Fred, thanks to the Joe Dirt bridge, and in the process of it all end up killing Daisy’s 74 Road Runner…which by this point’s isn’t actually a ’74 Road Runner at all. It’s replaced by a brand new product placement white Jeep Renegade named Dixie. This is a fantastic episode for stunts, shoddy hiding of car effects, sped up and slowed down car chase footage, and again – unrequited T&A. 9 Corndogs!

Classic Dukes Review: S4E2
“Double Dukes”

In the universe of most important episodes of the most important TV shows of all time, this one is at the top. The Dukes of Hazzard go where many have gone before by using the same actors to play dual roles of themselves…..but this time we get to see the real General Lee vs it’s duplicate while being gloriously directed by Paul Baxley. The plot is terrible, there are editing mistakes a plenty, but General fighting General will leave you ready to fight anyone, anywhere, and anytime! Boss Hogg hires two bad guys – played by one decent actor and one terrible one – to double Bo and Luke, then rob a bank in broad daylight in full of witnesses. The goal – get ride of the Dukes for all. It doesn’t work, we get shots of the General inside that are so great, and multiple jumps worth singing for. I can’t believe we haven’t redone this one already. This is in my Top 10 – maybe Top 5 – of all Dukes of Hazzard Episodes ever. 10 Corndogs!

“Days of Shine and Roses”
When NHRA Top Fuel superstar Clay Millican says, this is the episode of the Dukes I want to review….you say, “how high!” And then you say, “Yessir!” This classic Dukes of Hazzard episode features the finest early era of the Dukes – with Boss and Jesse trying to prove once and for all who is the best moonshine driver. And that means racing a ’68 Camaro against a ’68 Mustang, both loaded with moonshine cargo, through the territory of the evil Sheriff Spike Loomis – and back – without getting caught. Along the way we get classic Hollywood western bar flies, Catherine Bach at her most stunning, Disney Ranch at it’s most classic, and bootlegger turns that’ll rip your leaf spring out. 10 Perfect Corndogs!
