Feature Interview: Ed Capen
2013 GoodGuys Autocross Finals Update
In this episode of the Pro-Touring podcast we were lucky enough to bring Ed Capen on from GoodGuys for an update on the current standings for the big Shootout event at the end of the year (Saturday, November 16th at Westworld in Scottsdale). You’ll recall that we had Ed on the show in the beginning of the year (in Show #34) to announce the event, as this is the first year of it. At the end of the shootout 24 cars and drivers will roll in, and over $10,000.00 in cash and prizes will go out to the top four finishers!
There are three ways for people to get into the shoot-out:
1) At 11 Qualifying Good Guys events during the 2013 season the person with the fastest lap time in any class will get an invite to go. It should be noted that car and driver together are locked in, so one car can’t have multiple drivers or vice-versa. Here are the present invitees after 8 qualifying events, and note that three more qualifying events exist yet this season (the Speedway Nationals Sept 20-22 in Indianapolis, the Lone Star Nationals Oct 4-6 in Ft Worth, TX, and the Southeastern Nationals Oct 25-27 in Charlotte).
Finals Brian Hobaugh 65 Chevy Corvette S-AZ
Finals Roger Burman 70 Chevy Camaro S-TX
Finals Mary Pozzi 72 Chevy Camaro Del Mar
Finals Tom McBride 68 Chevy Camaro Nashville
Finals Rob MacGregor 69 Chevy C-10 Colorado
Finals Larry Woo 68 Chevy Camaro Mass
Finals Kevin Miller 69 Chevy Camaro Des M.
Finals Brian Finch 70 Chevy Camaro Columbus
2) At the end of the season, the Top 9 autocross points holders not already in the shootout will get an invite (and you gain points in the series by competing in as many events as possible during the year, and finishing as best as possible at each event).
3) The final four slots will be filled at the big event in Scottsdale itself, in a true “Shootout” style. GoodGuys will get in as many people as they can to compete!
The 24 car-shootout bracket is pictured above, but for full details of how the bracket, practice, and race will all break down please refer to Ed’s VERY detailed post on Pro-Touring.com. This is a single elimination event, so the “perfect lap” is what it will take to walk away with the top prize.
Thanks for the interview, Ed!
