Larry Callahan Pro-Touring Update:
It is time once again for the quarterly Pro-Touring Update, Presented by Ron Francis Wiring, and starring Mr. Larry Callahan! The focus of this update is to get updates of what is going on with Larry and The Pro-Touring community as well as getting the inside scoop on upcoming Pro-Touring (autocross) events in the June to August time frame.
The Pro-Touring movement has gone from fringe to mainstream over the past 15 years and Larry with his Pro-Touring.com website have been at the forefront of the movement from the beginning. The style has not only formed a segment in the industry but has changed the automotive world and is affecting new OEM cars from the factory that are now coming with advanced suspension, wider tires, and enhanced body work to make them wider, lower, and faster on an autocross track. Effectively, Pro-Touring is here to stay. One of the initial entrants to Pro-Touring 20 years ago was a guy named Mark Stielow that built an amazing handling 1969 Camaro. That same Mark Stielow today is the Director Motorsport Competition Engineering for General Motors!
MotiV8r Update: There is great news for the fans of Larry’s long term project MotiV8r, and let’s be honest, who isn’t a fan? The Camaro is coming home! Years ago Larry wanted to give the venerable banner car the full on end to end update with brand new cutting edge power plant, new suspension, and fantastic new electronics. He installed the supercharged Chevrolet Performance LSA emissions legal engine and then sent it to JCG. They are doing the clean up and a lot of the work that Larry did not want, or have time to do in his garage. Since he took it there, JCG has moved to a different state and delayed the return of MotiV8r home. Finally the time has come for it to return and it will have just enough wiring to make it run and allow Chris to drive it on to the trailer for the trip home. The plan has always been that Larry will then wire up all of the electronics goodies and put the finishing touches on the technologies. You can hear the excitement in Larrys voice and he is definitely looking forward to getting the car home and back out on the track.
SEMA News: The Pro-Touring SEMA Dinner is ON for 2023! The very first SEMA dinner was 23 years ago but the advent of COVID put things on hold and caused an interrupt to holding the milestone 20th Pro-Touring dinner.
