FEATURE INTERVIEWS:
Larry Callahan Pro-Touring Update:
Spring is just around the corner and that means it is finally time for a new Pro-Touring Update with Mr. Larry Callahan! It has been six months since our last full update and it was very good to talk and catch up. He let me know that big things are changing for him personally, but not with the now 22-year old website or his cars.
Larry is moving! He found a house with land for his wife to grow animals and plants as well as the added benefit of room for a hoist and room for cars. He figures he can lift a full size truck over his head and save himself the pain of crawling on the floor to work on cars. I asked if this was going to affect the website due to moving the servers and he settled that real quick by clarifying that the server was never at his house and in the hands of a professional service.
Upcoming Events: Brian Finch of Finch Performance and his friends at Tennessee Drift are back:
GoodGuys event are starting this weekend also:
Tremec “Lone Star” Shootout March 11-13, 2022 Forth Worth, TX
G-Comp by Speedway Motors “Spring Shootout” March 18-20, 2022 Scottsdale, AZ
American AutoCross Shootout March 26 & 27, 2022 Pleasanton, CA
CPP “Duel in Del Mar” Shootout Arpril 1-3, 2022 Del Mar, CA
Gearstar “Rumble in Raleigh” Shootout April 22-24, 2022 Raleigh, NC
Team Witt “Music City Mayhem” Shootout May 13-15, 2022 Lebanon, TN
Speedtech Muscle Car Shootout June 4 & 5, 2022 Pleasanton, CA
Optima Batteries “Duel in Des Moines” Shootout July 1-3, 2022 Des Moines, IA
Forgeline “Buckeye” Shootout July 8-10, 2022 Columbus, OH
SEMA News: The SEMA Low Volume Manufacturers Act has passed! It took a lawsuit against the US Government to get it actually enacted, but it has finally passed. The small scale production (325/year or less) of classic car replicas with a newly issued Federal VIN is now possible. Vehicles must represent a 25-year old mass manufactured car, may need to be produced by a company with an active license from the original manufacturer (ex. Ford, GM), and must meet modern emissions standards (think of the “E-Rod” engine package that Chevrolet Performance had CARB certified a few years ago). Obviously, this is a great leap forward….but it’s still not yet fully clear just yet. 2022 should finally shed some light when the first manufacturer decides to proceed with producing a car.
MotiV8r: MotiV8r is still at GCG but on the back burner. House things have taken priority, but they are still working on it. Larry told me about an automated track cam system that is planned for installation. He said it will have multiple cameras, G-force meters, track location, and auto recording whenever the car hits certain speeds. In classic Larry style technology will take center stage with speed as the focus.
As always, autocross and Pro-Touring events are featured at Pro-Touring.com
Thanks Larry!
