Movie Review: This is the coming of age tale of Lightning McQueen, the uber talented yet uber cocky up and coming race car in the Cars universe. You know the story just as well as we do so we’ll spare you the standard details. Basically, this is the tale of a universe where cars are people, racing is the national past-time, and Route 66 is rediscovered. The list of voice talent is outstanding and is helmed by Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, and Larry the Cable Guy. It’ll make you laugh, cry, and wish you were what you always really wanted to be in life…..a car! This is the first of the Cars trilogy of movies, but in our humble opinions…it’s the best.

K&F Show #229: The Independence Day Spectacular! – Dukes of Hazzard Review S7E13 “The Haunting of J.D. Hogg”

Presented with Holley! If you’re planning to do an EFI conversion Holley has a baffled EFI in-tank-pump equipped option ready to go for you! Remember, stock tanks meant for carburetors initially weren’t baffled, meaning a little sloshy-slosh here and there was inevitable (and for a carb with a fuel bowl, not a big deal). EFI requires a constant high pressure fuel supply, and an in-tank pump in the confines of a baffled fuel tank is the best way to go for drivability AND performance. The OEM’s have done that for 30 years!
Dukes Review: This is the first episode to release in 1985….and by this point in the show, the series was actually over. Filming had ceased. Actors were looking for new jobs. General Lee’s were sitting idly, waiting for a young Corndog to document them, knowing that there were 27 General Lee’s at the time and he stashed 8 of them for himself to find when he grew up. Tom Wopat directs the episode and – like his previous episodes – really gives fan service, interesting camera angles, and always establishes where the General is. There are no miniatures used of any kind – only recycled footage of jumps and new wrecks. At the end everyone is on scene together and happy. Rosco is over the top funny. It’s a really nice episode. White there are no new jumps, there are new stunts in it – including a big General Lee wreck that is potentially that last GL to be wrecked on screen. But I have to admit…it kind of seems like a goodbye.

K&F Show #228: #KibbeLee Father’s Day 180’s! – Summer Movie Review with Ryan Brutt “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”

Presented with Holley! Add this to your birthday list – last Christmas Holley has just release their brand new RetroBright LED headlight packages that blend classic, sealed-beam looks with modern, LED performance. Available in multiple sizes, shapes, and color temperatures, RetroBright headlights are the perfect way to add brightness and safety to your ride, without compromising aesthetics. Best yet, RetroBright lights incorporate plug-and-play-style pig tails which easily connect to the OEM vehicle wiring harness with no cutting or splicing required. It’s an easy upgrade, adds a ton of safety and drivability to your ride, and most importantly (if we’re honest) looks super-duper cool. Also to be sure to pick up a few speed goodies for yourself at Visit Holley.com and make SURE you tell them we sent you!
Movie Review: Ferris Bueller’s Day off is the tale of one high school hero who truly had it all; looks, brains, money, friends, a smokin’ hot girlfriend, popularity, style, and panache. However, despite all of that he still lacked the two things that he needed most….a day off, and a car! This is the tale of Ferris Bueller, the 4th wall breaking, Ferrari stealing, John Hughes immortal movie hit of 1986. Like nearly every other John Hughes tale the setting of the story was the Chicago suburbs!
The Ferrari in the film is supposed to be a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California. The insert shots of emblems and wheels really are of the genuine article, but absolutely everything else was a faker-oo Modena Spyder replica (three of them, actually). Ferrari was none too happy with this movie and sued Modena out of business. Most reports show that the Ford powered replicas were ham-fisted together, ran poorly, and broke down often. In fact our man Ryan Brutt (The Auto Archaeologist) joined in to share the tales of the man that keep the fake Ferrari’s running during the movie filming; his dad!

Dukes Review: This episode features my high school Nova, a classic voice over actor, and no miniature GL jumps. No GL jumps at all in fact, not even recycled real ones. That’s probably a good thing, because while this episode wasn’t remarkable, it wasn’t offensive. Boss Hogg gets caught by people doing to him what he’s always done to others; he got robbed with no insurance to protect him. And, he recognized that the Dukes were innocent in the predicament…but he still used them to solve his problem, because he knew Rosco was too dumb to solve it himself. The bad guy lead girl actress is the former wife of Beach Boy and Two Lane Blacktop Star Dennis Wilwon…..which did not help her acting skills. A helicopter is involved, there’s a little bit of miniature stuff, but again…..no GL jumps, and that means no miniature GL jumps. This is like when your kids comes home from school with a report card full of C’s and a note from the teacher that said he didn’t get in a fight today. He just sat there. And that’s good enough for me.

K&F Show #224: Alex Taylor, Obsolete iPhones, and Top Gun 2; Dukes of Hazzard Review S7 EP10 “Danger on the Hazzard Express”

That’s right, that magical red “spark box” that was in every race car and high school hot rod you can think of has the same great quality and support of any Holley product you can think of. Dukes Review: This is the episode where the General Lee goes rabid! The General gets turned into a remote controlled car, set to detail a train full of money with a load of dynamite in the trunk. Boss Hogg was behind the scheme of course, but the Dukes came back and nearly fought to the death to protect the most important their lives: their honor? No. Their fortune? No? Their reputation? NO! It was for their car! We have all learned this life lesson, and like them we all know that cars have a soul, need to be protected, and need to be fought for. Quite honestly, if it weren’t for the miniature stunt – which thankfully were minimal – this episode would be an 11 out of 10. Plus, the bad guy just happened to be Kung Fun Joe from to classic movie spook “I’m gonna get you Sucka!”

K&F Show #223: Corndog Give The Thumper Cam The Boot; Dukes of Hazzard S7E09 Review S7 EP9 “Cale Yarborough Comes to Hazzard”

Dukes Review: Cale Yarborough returns for some reason and he’s a better actor than many other guest stars! Mr. Belding (Dennis Haskins) from Saved by the Bell gets to be a star, finally! This is his third appearance on the Dukes, but first as a bad guy. More notably, and most importantly though, Al White (think “Jive Talk” from Airplane!) returns to Hazzard to play the role of another bad guy. Al White can do no wrong! Unfortunately, even though Cal Yarborough is here….this rest of this episode only does wrong. Lotsa wrong. Lotsa horrible horrible wrong. This episode features not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 miniature General Lee stunts….and….AND….a two wheel ski stunt. I can rationalize the cost savings of not jumping real cars dammit, but putting a car up on two wheels? That’s like – $30 in tires at this point and $50 for Buzz Bundy to work his magic for 5 minutes. But, I digress.
Anyway, here’s the plot. An orphan is sick, he’s huge Cale Yarborough fan and though we’ve never ever seen him before (and we’ll never see him again) he’s super close to the Dukes and they get Cale to come and cheer him up.
These damn miniatures. Not even the awesomeness of Cale Yarborough, Mr Belding, and Al White can overcome that.

Dukes Review: We’ve been telling you for years that The Dukes of Hazzard was a modern day Western, just with cars instead of horses. Well – this time – it’s literal. This is the episode of the Dukes in the old west (and by that we mean the South, but that’s harder to explain). If you’re a fan of the Dukes you’ll like this episode. It’s fun. If you’re in it for the car, skip it.
I really think this was yet another Season 7 metaverse episode – like the Waylon visit – where they know it’s tv, we know it’s tv, they know it’s a western, we know it’s a western, and with a wink and a nod they just did the obvious next metaverse move. Frankly, the only thing they didn’t do in this episode was paint a horse orange and put numbers on it.

Dukes Review: Before I say the following about this season 7 episode, there are two miniature jumps in this episode and that makes me sad. And then there is a real jump that’s redeeming, but it’s recycled. And the General Lee is barely in this episode, which is bad. But with all that said, this episode is awesome. It’s not Season 2-3 magic, it’s no Carnival of Thills, it’s not the one where Bo got amnesia and thought he was Boss Hogg’s son, it’s certainly not Happy Birthday General Lee…..but this is a really great episode.
Summary: Bo and Luke get caught by some corrupt southern law, and that corrupt southern law does what it does best…..show off. They get sentenced to a road gang, in fact, and while it’s certainly fully intended to be a Cool Hand Luke ripoff, it works! They escape, wrongs are righted; the end.
From a production standpoint this episode is really terrific. It gives us outstanding REAL FOOTAGE SCENES of John and Tom driving…..and the General saves the day with Catherine Bach behind the wheel. The acting in this episode is so believable, so real, you will almost forget you’re watching the Dukes of Hazzard. Almost.

Presented with Holley! Be sure to get signed up for LSFest West asap if you live west of the Mississippi. Visit LSFest.com for details, and visit Holley.com to buy a few toys for yourself and make SURE you tell them we sent you!
Movie Review: In honor of the upcoming Masters Tournament we bring you our review of the best automotive golf move starring Adam Sandler known to man; Happy Gilmore. Think of it like Billy Madison, but it’s about golf, has Apollo Creed in it, and stars a ’74 Duster with a sweet aftermarket sunroof!
Happy Gilmore is a man who wished he was a hockey player and who was raised by his grandmother after his mother ran out of him and his dad was killed by an errant hockey puck. While his hockey dream would never become a reality, the slapshot he mastered would help him to become a long drive golf hero of the common man. It would also somehow get him beat up by Bob Barker, host of “The Price is Right!”
Aside from the slapstick humor, this also gave us the chance to do a deep dive on A-Body MOPARS and investigate the magic “1973 and newer” front disc brake swap phenomenon that changed MOPAR humanity as we know it. All credit goes to Happy!
