FEATURE INTERVIEWS:
David Kruk – 1970 Super Bee
This week is the Holley MoParty event in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and I wanted to do a special lead-up interview in preparation for the show. David and Lizzie Kruk have been smiling faces at MoParty for years with his 1970 Super Bee B-body that he races in autocross and just has fun with in the sport.
David has been interested in cars since he was young and took a special interest in muscle cars. With the exception of a Charger he once threw rocks at, he has tried to make them faster, stronger, and better — all while driving them full-time. He has turned this passion into a full-time job, and you may have even read some of his writing at Mopar Connection Magazine or watched him working on cars on YouTube.
Sometimes you don’t know you need a thing until you see it. David was working with a guy and saw a couple of old Mopars sitting out back and inquired about what they were. They were parts cars destined for the scrap yard, and he asked if he could buy them. He was told, “Sure! 400 bucks, your choice!” The car went home a few days later, and he started putting it back together. Later, he bought another parts car to use for assembly but figured out the parts car was actually the better platform — and that became the 1970 Superbee you see today.
David admits he has put about 80,000 miles on it since assembling it for the first time, but it doesn’t stay the same for long. At a show, a friend told him he needed to try autocrossing, so he attended an event to see what it was like. He met several well-known names that took him under their wing and showed him that even heavy cars can fly around a track. He also quickly found out that his old, tired 440 big block needed refreshing. The poor old engine kept showing its age after hard passes around the track, so David eventually installed a stroker kit and other go-fast parts to provide the power needed to push a full-size Mopar around a race track.
That was only the start. He has since replaced the engine with a third-gen Hemi, upgraded the suspension with a new subframe and QA1 control arms, along with shocks, brakes, and nearly everything else up front. His next plans are to dial in the rear suspension so he can keep the front inside wheel closer to the ground when cornering.
David and Lizzie have traveled around the country with the Super Bee and have had a blast racing at different events like the Columbus Goodguys, Motor State Challenge, UMI King of the Mountain, and the Optima Ultimate Street Car race in Vegas. You can see him this weekend at the Holley MoParty in Bowling Green, Kentucky — racing the big yellow B-body around the track, flying down the drag strip, or hanging out talking to friends.

Thanks, David! Have fun at MoParty!
