K&F Show #245: Oldsmobiles, Leg Lamps, and BB Guns! Movie Review: “A Christmas Story”

We are kicking off the Christmas season with a 3-week long Holiday Trifecta! This week we’ll re-air our 2019 review of “A Christmas Story,” the top choice of our man Corndog for Christmas Americana. Next week we’ll review the new “A Christmas Story Christmas” sequel movie, and the week after that will be a full run down of the one and only Dukes of Hazzard Christmas epidote: The Great Santa Clause Chase!

If you haven’t yet joined us on Patreon, please consider it – if just for this month. We’re making a mad dash to have a great donation to Toys for Tots on on Dec 16.  Links are below to sign up! http://www.patreon.com/kfshow.

Presented with Holley! We’re happy to let you know that Holley is doing another amazing engine giveaway but you only have until Dec 5, 2022 to get signed up for it! This time it’s the latest and greatest LT motor filled with some of the best parts money can buy, including a forged rotating assembly that brings displacement to 427 cubic inches, Mast Motorsports Black Label cylinder heads, a custom ground camshaft, and as many Holley parts as we could throw at it. All of this will be controlled by a Holley Terminator X EFI system, making it capable of up to 700 horsepower. https://www.holley.com/win/ltenginesweepstakes/

Movie Notes: If there was one movie to review that best summed up the mind of kid-dom at Christmas it definitely has to be A Christmas Story! The tale of Ralphie Parker and his desire for a Red Ryder BB gun is ingrained in Americana, thanks in part to the 24-hour marathon on the Turner Broadcast networks beginning in the late 1990’s. It’s set in the late 1930’s and is laid over with Jean Shephard’s voice telling the tale of his youth. From fighting bullies with green teeth, to being tricked into radio commercials for Ovaltine, to his old man’s desire for a MAJOR AWARD, this movie has it all and never gets old. There are even old cars, a tongue stuck to a frozen pole, and a duck that gets his head cut off.  PERFECT 10 LITTLE DEBBIE CHRISTMAS TREE RATING.

K&F Show #244: California Dukes Adventure for 2023? Movie Review – The John Hughes Movie Car Spectacular!

The John Hughes Movie Car Spectacular! Kibbe created the criteria for all of this, so if a major one got missed or you disagree with the reasoning it’s his fault. First, the movie has to be well known. It has to have been released within his lifetime. He could have written it, directed it, or both. Most importantly there has to be a car that you instantly identify with that movie or that someone would be wacky enough to make a replica of!

K&F Show #243: SEMA 2022 Insider Access – “Corndog’s Pick” for the Dukes Review – S1E4 “Repo Men”

Presented with Holley! At the SEMA Show Holley dropped a number of new product offerings, including the super nice (and super affordable) Hooker exhaust manifolds for the traditional Small Block Chevy. Hooker’s line of cast-iron exhaust manifolds are designed to perform far above factory manifolds and are offered in five finishes: natural cast, cast-iron gray ceramic, black ceramic, silver ceramic, and titanium ceramic. For builds under 550 horsepower that don’t necessarily need tubular headers, like a weekend cruiser, these manifolds might be the answer you are looking for!

Just visit Holley.com to peruse and view for yourself. While you are there….pick out a few more things for Christmas and be SURE to tell them that we sent you!

Dukes Review: When Corndog picked a Georgia episode to review I knew to trust his judgment. This episode features everything: Jerry Rushing, the self-proclaimed real-life Bo Duke, Lee 1 in it’s after jumped form, and a thin Boss Hogg with a weird accent and even weirder eyebrows. Add to that mismatched GL’s as far as the eye can see, real GL horn sound effects, and writing credits by none other than Bob Clark (from “A Christmas Story”)! 10 Corndogs.

K&F Show #242: The Thanksgiving K-Cars Movie Review – Planes, Trains and Automobiles!

Presented with Holley! Phase 3 of Kibbe and Friends is officially here, and Holley is back for more fun, foolishness, and flying orange Chargers! Sure, you know Holley for making carburetors, fuel injection, exhaust, and other happy giving items….but did you know they also have wiper motor conversions for your classic ride? Boom. Your life has just changed! That’s right, Holley offers a wide range of kits under their Detroit Speed line of award winning suspension and electrical items, including the Selecta-Speed wiper kit. Frankly put, some people have said these kits are better than candy, puppies, and fireworks. We agree. A modern wiper kit on an old car makes it almost instantly into a usable daily driver again!

Movie Review: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!

The KF Show is off at SEMA 2022 this week! That’s good news though, because we’ll come back with plenty of stories and content for you. In the mean time we are kicking off the month of November with a “re-run” of our famous review of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!

So here’s the thing – when it comes to a Thanksgiving themed highly quotable slapstick-yet-tearjerker movie to review there’s really only one that is worthy of doing so for: Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Let’s admit it – John Hughes plus Steve Martin plus John Candy equals perfection. And yes, before you even say it, we have reviewed this movie years before with Finnegan (Episode 51) in fact. And yes…it was so funny then that, like this movie, it’s worth a repeat of because it’s as timeless as it gets….plus the re-enactment of the “you play with your balls” scene was pretty epic!

Better yet….the entire second hour on Patreon (www.patreon.com/kfshow) does a deeper dive on the car, the quotes, the unaired plot points that explained so much more, and another movie re-enactment of the most famous scene in the movie. You know the one….those aren’t pillows!

Kick back and enjoy – and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

K&F Show #241: Can Openers in Tires For Everyone! – Movie Review: Dukes of Hazzard – Hazzard in Hollywood 2000 Reunion!

Boom. Dukes Review: DIt’s the Dukes of Hazzard Reunion……again. This time, like the last time, the combine some old scripts from the TV series and create a slightly newer episode from it. Which episodes you ask – well – at a minimum, Season 7 Episode 6 titled The Dukes in Hollywood, combined with Daisy’s Song from Season 1, combined with – possibly – the 1962 movie The Music Man – which ironically the Hazzard town set was built for. Now, add to that a brand new jump of a General Lee – the first since the TV show ended – and it gets more interesting.

And add to that that we see the original hero car close up inside – a lot – and that’s fun. But perhaps most interesting of all is that this TV movie is possibly, nay, probably the precursor to a little movie that will come out one year later in 2001. That movie, like this episode, features a teaming up a local Mexican or hispanic family that fights crime with cars, likes block parties, and has a penchant for the ’68-70 Dodge Charger. That’s right. Add this to the list of stuff the Dukes invented but did not get credit for; the Dukes created the Fast and Furious Franchise. The end.

Dukes Review: When I heard in 1996 that there was going to be a Dukes reunion I ran out and bought a copy of the National Enquirer. Why? Because pictures of the Dukes filming were in it for some reason? Entertainment Tonight had a segment called “hot rod heaven” with Bo and Luke laying on the hood of the General and talking to each other, and everyone was going to be in it. And then it premiered. And they had a different theme song. And Waylon Jennings wasn’t the balladeer. And they had new sound effects for the General Lee, not to mention the General looked different and goofy. Why are the numbers, pushbar, tailpanel, roll bar all messed up? And the lighting and picture and coloring was weird. And other than Bo, everyone looked older….and maybe not quite as tight and right as they once were, but hey, Dukes is Dukes. Rosco is funny, Jesse is good, Luke is still stronger and faster than everyone, and Bo can still drive. Cleetus returns – which I’m glad to see – Cooter returns from serving in Congress of all things – Daisy…..is getting a PHD and has an affinity for eating ribs.

It’s basically just a two hour regular Dukes episode where the boys have to race the General Lee to save the farm (again), Enos proposes to Daisy and she says yes (again) only to then cancel on him (again), but even a weird episode of the Dukes is better than no Dukes. Plus, this is the one where Corndog’s real General Lee made it’s premier! Bonus info: the first time you see the GL on screen in this episode….is Corndog’s car!

Movie Review: Joe Dirt. This is it! If you have been waiting months or years for us to finally review this movie, your days of suffering are now over. Here it is in all it’s glory. This may be the perfect movie for a show like ours to actually review because,  #1 – it’s dumb,  #2 – it’s funny, #3 – it has great cars, and #4 – this movie is told, in audio story form, from a radio station, with everyone glued to their audio listening device.  This was a time when real stars were on the radio….which we’re just going to claim as old-school form of a podcast.  It may also be (in a way) the redneck cousin sequel to our favorite movie Tommy Boy as well (listen in for details).

Dukes Review: Rob’s Summary…I was in 5th grade when this episode originally aired. I sadly didn’t understand it all coming to an end at that time as a kid, and now as a near 50 year old adult it seems just as hard but yet totally for different reasons. For the last six and a half years we have made a show about a show, and I for one have loved it! Anyway, enough with the sappiness. This is the final episode of the Dukes, John Schneider finally gets to write and direct something…..my High School Nova reappears one last time….and the General Lee actually gets hurt – from, a jump! The stunts are grossly limited as you’d expect from a cancelled show, but nonetheless the plot must go on. So…here’s the plot: there’s a Hazzard County talent show at the Boar’s Nest and Rosco has a magician’s act that supposedly makes Boss disappear. But when Boss actually gets kidnapped the Dukes must rescue him from two stone cold killers….so that Boss can get back in time to rescue Roscoe’s broken heart.
