Movie Recap: Stroker Ace
If you love Smokey and the Bandit, Cannonball Run, WKRP in Cincinnati, Gomer Pyle, and Days of Thunder, this movie might be for you… maybe.
Stroker Ace is like a mashup of every 80s cult favorite — minus the darkness of Deliverance (except for Ned Beatty), and with none of the high-octane realism of Days of Thunder. It’s wildly inappropriate by today’s standards, filled with sexual innuendo, confederate flags, and glorified nonsense — but it still makes us laugh.
When Hal Needham called, Burt Reynolds answered… and created a legendary box office flop that lives on in NASCAR movie history. Why?
Because he was driving the Fastest Chicken in the South.
Directed by:
Hal Needham
Starring:
Burt Reynolds
Ned Beatty
Jim Nabors
Parker Stevenson
Loni Anderson
Released: 7/1/1983
Produced by: Warner Bros AND Universal Pictures

Welcome back, old friends, and dear listeners….this is all REALLY a credit to you. YOU ROCK!!
This episode features our review of the movie Cannonball Run, but it’s really more of a tribute to the late great Burt Reynolds who passed away recently. We loved Burt’s crazy car movies and Cannonball Run was as zany as it ever got. The premise and screen play were a credit to automotive journalist Brock Yates (who makes a cameo in this movie), and then Burt, Dom DeLuise, and Hal Needham took of from there. Alter ego superheroes, cross-eyed proctologists, inappropriate humor (by today’s standards) and ambulances with straight headers are all you need to know. Thanks for the fun, Burt!
You can listen to our review of Smokey and the Bandit back in Episode 31 here as well: https://themusclecarplace.com/kf-show-31

K&F Show #36: Our Review of Hal Needham’s Epic Fable: “Megaforce”

So…we’re in between Dukes of Hazzard seasons and decided to throw in another movie review to take a brief Dukes of Hazzard break. Finnegan suggested (more like insisted) that it be Megafoce, the 1982 epic movie that Hal Needham directed and starred in. Here’s the good news: the movie has lots of crazy vehicles, a few funny lines, and stars Edward Mulhare who would go on to play “Devon Miles” from Knight Rider. Here’s the bad news: there’s really no other good news of note. The movie ends with a flying motorcycle on a green screen, and Barry Bostick wears a spandex (or lycra?) suit with no regards for underwear. Finnegan gives it 8 lazer-guided corndogs. Kibbe gives is a generous 3. Hijinks Ensue.
