K&F Show #347: Thanksgiving Special Car Movie Review – “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!”

Few movies capture the chaos, heart, and humor of the holidays quite like Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Steve Martin’s tightly wound Neal Page and John Candy’s endlessly lovable Del Griffith deliver one of the greatest odd-couple road trips ever put on film — a journey packed with missed flights, broken-down cars, and moments that somehow make you laugh uncontrollably and tear up at the same time. It’s loud, ridiculous, heartfelt, endlessly quotable, and somehow only gets better with age. This movie isn’t just a Thanksgiving watch; it’s a Thanksgiving tradition that reminds us that sometimes the people who drive us the most crazy are the ones we’re most grateful for.

From all of us here at Kibbe & Friends, we want to wish you and your family a warm, happy, and safe Thanksgiving. Whether you’re traveling across the country or just heading down the street, we hope your week is filled with good food, good laughs, and the kind of memories that only come from time spent with the people who matter most. Drive safe, hug your people, and don’t forget to enjoy the ride.

K&F Show #343: Bernie’s Birthday and a General Lee Giveaway (Maybe)? // Car Movie Review: “Speed Zone” – the Lost John Candy Flick!

The Kibbe and Friends Show returns with Episode 343 — and this one’s full of laughs, nostalgia, and big ideas. Rob, Corndog, and birthday boy Bernie celebrate his 65th with a mix of humor and heartfelt chaos while rediscovering Speed Zone — the almost-forgotten “Cannonball Run III” starring John Candy. Between movie trivia and behind-the-scenes banter, the crew keeps the laughs rolling as only they can.

Meanwhile, Rob gears up for Dallas Kibbe’s first Las Vegas race weekend, with the No. 13 car back on track at The Bullring before heading into the Asphalt Nationals. It’s a huge test for the season, and listeners get an inside look at prep, pressure, and the thrill of competition. And then comes a bold idea — could Kibbe and Friends actually host a General Lee giveaway? Not confirmed, but the possibility is on the table. Would you want in? Tune in to find out — available now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube!

Thanksgiving Movie Review: “Planes, Trains, & Automobiles”

K&F Movie Summary: If you have ever had a boat anchor of a friend that somehow became someone you loved so much you hated yourself for it, Planes Trains and Automobiles is the Thanksgiving movie that’ll make you cry with joy. Steve Martin plays Neal Page, an overworked executive just trying to get home two days before Thanksgiving to his family. Del Griffith is a loud mouth overweight blabber mouth salesman that seemingly loves only to talk people to death, followed by enjoying life as a perpetual slob. But this odd couple gets stuck together, and they have the road trip of a lifetime via planes, trains, buses, and automobiles. Along with way hands are shoved into butts, the F-Bomb is laced together in a way that’ll make your mother cry with tears and your dad cry with laughter, and six different Dodge LeBaron’s give their life to become so famous as the best buddy car of all time that it ended up in Deadpool and and Wolverine. This is an absolutely perfect, quotable, re-watchable, funny, thoughtful, sad, loving, and hilarious movie that we’ll all watch on Thanksgiving until we die. 10 Turkey Rolls!

Legit Movie Car Facts:

-Six custom-painted, green 1986 Dodge 600 convertibles served as comic relief throughout the movie modified with the Lebaron grille, headlights, taillights, and wood siding. . The cars were re-branded as a fictional Gran Detroit, Farm and Country Edition.

-Chrysler wanted no part of any relationship with the car.

-No actual Town & Country convertibles were destroyed during filming because the studio found plain ’86 Dodge 600s and Chrysler LeBarons, painted them green, and then applied the stock wood trim afterward.

-Special “D” hood badges replaced Chrysler ones on convertibles used in the movie.

-It is so famous that it made a cameo in Dealpool vs Wolverine

-The enormous wire wheel covers were a joke.

-The color green was chosen by John Hughes himself to go with the wood siding. The car is a nod to another famous Hughes movie car, the Family Truckster from National Lampoons Vacation.

-Only one of the cars survived and was repainted a cream color. It was last seen in Los Angeles in 2009.

Movie Review: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!

The KF Show is off at SEMA 2022 this week! That’s good news though, because we’ll come back with plenty of stories and content for you. In the mean time we are kicking off the month of November with a “re-run” of our famous review of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!

So here’s the thing – when it comes to a Thanksgiving themed highly quotable slapstick-yet-tearjerker movie to review there’s really only one that is worthy of doing so for: Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Let’s admit it – John Hughes plus Steve Martin plus John Candy equals perfection. And yes, before you even say it, we have reviewed this movie years before with Finnegan (Episode 51) in fact. And yes…it was so funny then that, like this movie, it’s worth a repeat of because it’s as timeless as it gets….plus the re-enactment of the “you play with your balls” scene was pretty epic!

Better yet….the entire second hour on Patreon (www.patreon.com/kfshow) does a deeper dive on the car, the quotes, the unaired plot points that explained so much more, and another movie re-enactment of the most famous scene in the movie. You know the one….those aren’t pillows!

Kick back and enjoy – and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
